Betty Elaine (Leonard)Derr daughter of Gearld and Hazel (Daily)Leonard was born October 30,1920 in Inavale, Nebraska. She was the youngest of three children. Betty passed away November 27,2001 in Hays Kansas at the age of 81. Betty grew up in the Inavale area and graduated from the Inavale school. Betty married Duane Winfield Derr on January 11,1940 in Red Cloud, Nebraska. From this union was born six children: Janipher Sue, Gearld Lee, Kathy Elaine, Patricia Ann, Diana Lynne, Micheal Duane. Betty lived in the Denver Colorado area and resided in Arvada before moving to Lafayette in 1981. After the death of her husband, Betty moved to Red Cloud, Nebraska to be closer to her family.while living in Red Cloud she became a member of the Betty Club.She also enjoyed baseball games and her trips to Branson Missouri with daughter, Jan and husband George "Pat"Cole of Guide Rock, Nebraska. In her later years Betty was afflicted with health problems that kept her homebound and later diagnosed with kidney failure. In May 2001 she moved to Hays, Kansas. Preceding her in death was her brother, Floyd, her infant daugher Patricia, her parents, and her husband of 52 years.
Betty was cremated with the Hays Memorial Chapel of Hays Kansas handling the arrangements.
