Orpha was the first born child of Jason Andrew Law and Edna Celestia Hulbert. The Jason Law Bible stated, "Orpha Ellen Law Born February the 18th A.D. 1891 weight 6 lb. Wed morn." She grew up on a farm and worked along with her parents, brother's and sister's to sustain the family. In an old letter she wrote to her daughter she said, "I always loved the country I loved to bake pie, cake, bread, doughnuts and etc. I also loved horses., cows all animals I started to milk a cow at 6 years so I always loved the out door work too."

Orpha married when she was 17 years old to Ray Hoover in 1908. She had her first child, a daughter, LaVerne Hoover in 1911, the year her father died. She was 20 years old and living in Ohio. That marriage didn't last and they divorced. Sometime before 1916 Orpha had moved to Detroit. She married a 2nd time to Edward Near and they had two children 1)Olive Helen Near in 1918 and 2)Robert Edward Near in 1921. They divorced also.
By 1929 Orpha had moved west to California where her mother had a residence. She married William Matthews the 29th September 1929 and settled down to live out their lives together. For a time they lived on a farm in California but ended up in Ventura, California. William worked as a butcher. She had finally found a soul mate and they had a happy marriage. He passed away in 1944 and her mother died in 1949. Orpha was pretty much alone for the rest of her life,(about 20 years) until her death in September 1967 in Thousand Oak, California where she resided in a care center. My parents would visit her as they traveled back and forth from Los Angeles to Santa Barbara. It was a lonely life however without her children and other family members around her. My father took care of his sister's final arrangements. She was cremated and we believe my father
scattered her ashes over her husband's grave at Ivy Lawn in Ventura,CA.Orpha grew up in Defiance County, Ohio with parents, Jason & Edna Hulbert Law and 5 siiblings, Richard, Opal, Jason, Dewey and Ted. Orpha was married five times:

My father, Ted Law, had told me Orpha was buried at Ivy Lawn Cemetery. But, on 14 March 1996 while visiting the cemetery office, they could not find any record that stated that her ashes were interred with her husband or her mother. They stated that she had been cremated there, but the ashes were picked up or taken by Theodore T. Law and his wife....who had made the arrangements.. My parents, Ted & Dorsa Law, never spoke to me regarding where they scattered her ashes. It's possible they scattered them at the cemetery or elsewhere. The cemetery office stated that they have no record that she's buried with anyone else. Her husband, William Matthews was not cremated and is buried at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park D-5-204
