Harmen continued farming after his father, John, died.

The Juelson family spent two winters leaving, November 1 and March 30, to Long Beach, California, where Harmen worked for Western Gear, after discontinuing his livestock operation, because of allergies. He continued grain farming, until his retirement. The Juelson's purchased the Andrew Rice farm, which joined some of their land, when the Rice's retired and moved into Fertile, Minnesota. Harmen was active in community affairs, serving on various boards. He helped build the ski Chalet at the Sand Hills, which provided many hours of entertainment. They were both active in church and school activities. The children assisted with the farm work and had summer jobs, until after their college graduations. Harmen and Palma Juelson, retired and moved to Fertile, Minnesota, Spring 1980.
