Obituary Notice – Western World – 11 October 1995

Funeral services for Elmer Avon Gant of Bandon were held Thursday, October 5, at the Amling-Schroeder Chapel in Bandon with Pastor Rick House of Langlois Community Church officiating. Interment is at the IOOF Cemetery in Bandon. Mr. Gant died October 2, of natural causes.

Born on the family homestead in Powers to Calvin and Laura (Hayes) Gant, he moved to Myrtle Point at an early age where he attended schools. He was a graduate of Myrtle Point High School and attended the University of Oregon where he was a member of the Ki Psi Fraternity. On September 30, 1928 he married Grace E. Thorn in Coquille. She preceded him in death in 1991.

Mr. Gant had lived in Bandon since 1928. He owned and operated the Gant Clothing Store until shortly after the Bandon fire. He was also involved with real estate and cranberry farming. He was a Boy Scout Master in Bandon for many years. He was the youngest of eight children in the Gant family. His six brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
