HUBERT EDWARDS DIES AFTER BOAT ACCIDENT ON COQUILLE RIVER
Hubert Nelson Edwards, 36, died late Saturday afternoon following a boat accident on the Coquille River at Prosper. Edwards had been a resident of this area for 22 years and was a cheese maker for the Coquille Valley Dairy Co-op plant in Bandon.
Alone in a small boat with an outboard motor, Edwards is reported to have made a quick turn while moving fast. He was thrown into the water and reportedly swam a few strokes away from the boat before sinking out of sight as ____ started towards him from persons on a dock who saw the accident.
The body was recovered by fishermen with a drag and artificial resuscitation was attempted by doctors and a crew from the Bandon Coast Guard station.
Funeral services were held Wednesday from the First Baptist Church in Bandon with the Rev. C. L. Nichols officiating. Interment was in the Odd Fellows Cemetery.
