OBITUARY

"Vaughn A. Bartlett, age 96, of North Centre Street, Marcellus died Tuesday, October 27, 1987 in Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac.

He was born October 28, 1891 in a log cabin in Van Buren County, the son of Arthur T. and Mammie (Linsley) Bartlett. On December 19, 1918, in Marcellus, he married Florence E. Huber who preceded him in death October 9, 1979.

He was engaged in farming, joined the U.S. Army in 1917. For 20 years was in the plumbing business, was Postmaster for 4 years, Deputy Sheriff for 4 years, Fire Chief for 10 years, elected village president, Cass County Treasurer for 26 years and Justice of the Peace for 4 years. He was appointed to Selective Service Draft Board for 3 years. He was a charter member of Wood Hill Post No. 39 American Legion and Past Commander member of Wood Hill Post No. 39. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 291 and the High Priest Royal Chapter 167 of Marcellus. He was a member of the 320 of Masons in 1918 at Grand Rapids.

Surviving are three nieces Doris Van Dam, Kathryn Wager and Clara Chandler all of Kalamazoo.

Two brothers preceded him in death.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 30 in the Marcellus Cemetery with Pastor Kenneth I. Kline of the Marcellus and Wakelee United Methodist Churches officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Marcellus Ambulance Fund.

Arrangements were handled by the Romig Funeral Home."
