Daughter of Charles P. Downing & Alma Nesbet Downing.She graduated from Stafford High School in 1915. She was the Wife of Claude Arnold Weir. Myrtis fell in love with Claude Weir of Stafford Kansas. He entered the U.S. Army and was stationed at Camp Shelby Mississippi in 1918. Myrtis soon after followed him to Mississippi, where they were united in marriage October 26, 1918 in Hattisburg, Mississippi. To this union, two children were born. Gloria Jean Weir and Eugene Arnold Weir.
It was said that Myrtis Downing did not like her first name and chose to be called Peggy. She had beautiful, wild red hair and always said 'I did not marry the Weir family, I married Claude" ! She was a brilliant woman, well educated, refined and fun to be with, who was loved by all.
