Daughter of Sanford V. & Sarah (Gibson) Moore.

Married to James Herbert Barker April 2, 1879.

From the Barker family Bible in the Jackson County Historical & Genealogical Society files, Holton KS: marriage performed by J.L.(?) Edwards

SARAH TENNESSEE BARKER

Sarah Tennessee Moore was born a daughter of Sanford V. and Sarah Moore, near Hiawassee, Georgia, on Dec. 1, 1855, and passed away at the Pawnee City hospital on Feb. 9, 1947, at the age of 91 years, 2 months and 8 days.

At an early age she moved with her parents to a home in the Ozark country of Southern Missouri. Her father was a captain of Cavalry in the union Army during the Civil war. When the captain was released from service at the close of the war, he at once gathered up his family and moved into the new "West Country," where he settled in Pawnee county, Nebraska. So in April of 1865 Sarah Moore became a homesteader's daughter. She attended school in the new country and later taught school in Pawnee county.

On April 2, 1879, she was married to James H. Barker, and this couple set up a business of farming which they followed successfully till their retirement in 1911. In that year the Barkers moved from their farm into Pawnee City where their remaining years were spent. Mrs. barker's husband preceded her in death in 1930.

Now living are three brothers and one sister of Mrs. Barker, Mrs. Edna Copenhaver of Emmet, Idaho, Dee Moore of Buffalo, Wyo., C. B. Moore of Sheridan, Wyo., and L. M. Moore of Omaha, Nebr.

To the union of James and Sarah Barker were born five children, all of whom are yet living. They are, Mrs. Mabel Avery of Miami, Fla., Mrs. Olive Bennett, Mrs. Audrey Avery, Claude A. Barker, all of Pawnee City, and James H. Barker of Caracas, Venezuela, S. A. Beside her children there are several grandchildren and some great grandchildren, and many friends, who will miss her.

Sarah Moore barker lived a long and useful life. She was a true wife, a good mother, a friend of many, and truly a pioneer of the country and the day in which she lived. She was a member of the Methodist church of Pawnee City for many years, and was ever loyal and faithful in her relation with her church, attending its services faithfully until only recent months.

The funeral service was held on Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist church, and was conducted by Rev. W. N. Wallis. Burial was in the Pawnee City cemetery.
