Fannie Smith was born January 11, 1854, at Silver Creek, Mich., and soon removed to this place where her childhood was spent. After the death of her father, finished her education, in Kalamazoo and after spending some time in teaching, during which time she made her home with her much-loved aunt, Mrs. Marcia Sutherland, of Portage. She was married to M. P. Bresson April 26, 1876.
Mrs. Bresson was the mother of four children, three of whom, Richelieu Bresson, Mrs. James Gay and Miss Bernice Bresson, with her husband, M. P. Bresson, and a sister, Mrs. Mary Flick, and many other relatives survive her. The youngest child, Renabel, whose death was a shock from which her mother never recovered, died about five years ago.
For many years she was a member of the Springbrook M. E. church and Sunday school, and Woman's Foreign Missionary society. She died at the age of 55 years and 2 months, on March 11, 1909, after a brief illness of less than a week, which came as a shock to her many friends. The funeral service was held on Sunday, March 14, at the home and was conducted by her pastor, Rev. J. Hilborn, of Richland.
