The telegram follows: Washington D.S. 8-7-43 Carl F. Quade Jeffers, Minn. Report received from the German government through the International Red Cross states your son, Flight Officer Kenneth A. Quade who was previously reported missing in action since twenty-five June was killed in action twenty-five June in the European area. The Secretary of War extends his deep sympathy. Letter follows. The Adjutant General.

Kenneth was a member of the Air Corps and was stationed in England. He had written members of his family that he had been on several missions but could tell them nothing except that he had seen other countries besides England. It is quite evident tht he lost his life while on a mission over Europe, and quite possibly over German occupied territory or Germany itself, as his death was confirmed by the German government. Kenneth was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl F. Quade of Jeffers and was born on October 2, 1922 in Germantown township. He was baptized by the Rev. Hans Appel on January 21, 1923 and was confirmed by the Rev. W.O. Langholz on June 3, 1936. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and the Luther League. He received his education in the local school. During his high school days he was a star basketball player and was also a member of the football squad. He was a fine, clean-cut young man and, he, with the other members of the teams, had the reputation of being clean, fair players. He graduated from high school in May, 1940 and on December 6, 1940 he enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He left Fort Snelling on December 18 and was stationed for a few weeks at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri. He then went to Scott Field, Illinois where he attended the Air Corps Technical school, graduating frmo this course on July 18, 1941. He was transferred to McCord Field, Washington, and then the first part of November, 1941 he went to Hamilton Field, California. On april 3, 1942 he enetered the flying school at Santa Ana, California; from there he was sent, in May, to Santa Monica California. He received his basic training at Lemoore, California, starting this in August, 1942. He then went to Roswell, New Mexico in October for his advanced training and received his wings at this station on November 29. After that he was stationed at various points, including Boise, Idaho, Salt Lake City, Utah; Wendover, Utah, and Sioux City, Iowa. During the month of April he was at Scribner, Nebraska. On February 16 of this year his parents, relatives and many others saw him fly over Jeffers. He was home on furlough March 25 and a few weeks after his return to duty he left this country. On May 3rd he cabled his mother that he had arrived safely at his destination, which later letters disclosed to be somewhere in England. Mrs. Quade also received a cable from him on Mother's Day. He had attained the rank of Flight Officer and had written his mother on June 24, the day before he was reported missing, that he had been promoted to First Pilot.
He leaves to mourn his death, his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Carl Quade; seven sisters, Elnora (Mrs. Delbert McCartney) of Broweville, Louise (Mrs Art Wegner) of Staples, Mabel (Mrs. Les Schneider), Verna (Mrs. William Schoneman), Olga (Mrs. C R Burmeister) all of Jeffers, Estella and Luella at home; three brothers, Arnold of Jeffers, Wilbur and Carl Jr at home: his grandmothers, Mrs. Pauline Quade of Jeffers and Mrs. Herman Halter of Lamberton; many other relatives and a host of friends. One brother, Orville, preceded him in death at the age of seven months. We join with the host of friends in extending deepest sympathy to his parents, sisters, brothers and other relatives who mourn his passing. Plans are being made to hold a memorial service for Kenneth. The date will be announced later.

Remains interred initially in Europe. Returned to US 1949 onboard US Army Transport Haiti Victory.
