Sally, 80, of Bancroft, passed away Sunday, at Avalon Hospice, Flint Township. Funeral services were held Thursday, August 26th at the Perry Baptist Church, Perry with Pastor Desmond Bell officiating, assisted by Pastor Jim Carrel. Sally was born the daughter of Monie and Sarah (Smith) Shafer. She graduated from high school in 1949 and on September 2, 1950 she married Jay Rockwell DeGarmo in Portland, MI. Mrs. DeGarmo was a member of Perry Baptist Church. She enjoyed reading and crocheting. She crocheted many pillow covers that she gave as gifts to newborns, graduates and newlyweds. She worked for awhile at Knapp's Dept. Store – Meridian Mall in the gift wrap department. There she created some of the most beautifully wrapped gift boxes anyone would love to receive. However, for herself and others, her most precious gift was the time she spent with family and friends. Those who survive her include, husband, Jay of Bancroft; children, Mila Sue DeGarmo of Alpine, WY, Pauline McClure of Perry, Dale (Martha) DeGarmo of Owosso, Gary (Sue) DeGarmo of Kalkaska, MI, Raymond (Tina) DeGarmo of Bancroft, and Linda Jean DeGarmo of Eaton Rapids; 13 grandchildren; 25 great grand children; 2 great-great grandchildren; brother, Monie Shafer Jr. of Lake City; sister, Peggy Sumner of Romulus; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Leroy Jay DeGarmo and a brother, Casper Shafer. Those who wish may make a memorial gift in her name to the Perry Baptist Church or Avalon Hospice, Flint, MI.
