Ruth Bell Huff, 64, of DeSoto, Kan., formerly of Marshall, died Friday, Feb. 20, 2004, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center in Overland Park, Kan.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23, at Sweeney-Reser-Wills Funeral Home in Marshall. Rev. Jerry Scott officiated. Organist Ramona Bullington played "Amazing Grace" and "I Believe." Pallbearers were Randy Apel, Randy Berger, James Huff, Michael Huff, Harold Simmons and Jerry Whitaker. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Marshall.

Born July 20, 1939, in Dallas County, she was the daughter of the late George Dewey Simmons Sr. and Sylvia Pummill Simmons. On Nov. 16, 1956, in Marshall, she married William E. Huff, who survives of the home. She moved from Marshall in 1967 to DeSoto, Kan., where she lived for the past 37 years. She had been employed at ConAgra Frozen Foods, International Shoe, Twin City Tool and Bonner Swisher Manufacturing before her retirement. She was a member of Gill Memorial Baptist Church in Marshall.

Additional survivors include one son, William C. Huff of Earth City; one daughter, Debra D. Whitaker of the home; three brothers, George D. Simmons Jr., Delano "Doc" Simmons and Carl D. Simmons, all of Marshall; three sisters, Nancy Simmons Miller of Gilliam, Vera L. Huesgen of Fulton and Carol I. Johns of St. James; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters and two grandchildren.
