Deseret News, The (Salt Lake City, UT) - November 12, 1998. Joseph H. Wood passed away at 88 years old on Novmeber 9, 1998 from a long illness. He was born May 10, 1910 to George Cotton Wood and Juliett Howard Wood. Joseph was the last survivor of his brothers and sisters. He was educated in Davis County.

Joseph married Cristie Eldgredge and had three children, Lairy E. Wood; Vernon J. Wood; Karin Webster; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren. He later married Elaine Sessions and he raised her two children, Marianne Miller and Mark Pratt Wood; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchild.

Joseph was a life long resident of Bountiful, Utah, until 1984 at which time he moved to Lake Elsinore, California and he remained there until his death. He was blessed with a beautiful voice and gave freely of his talents throughout the Salt Lake Valley and also in Lake Elsinore. Joseph was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held the office of High Priest. Joseph had many accomplishments (a few) Member of the Tabernacle Choir, member of the Barber Shop Statesman in Salt Lake City, Choir Director, Ward Chorister, Area Music Chairman. As a young boy, 15 years old, he sang, "Let Us All Speak Kind Words To Each Other" at World Wide Conference. Joseph retired from Phillips 66 Petroleum after 44 years. Joseph had a great sense of humor and could put you at ease in a second. He believed in lots of laughter. He also had a green thumb and was quite the gardener. Vegetables and flowers. The sport he loved was fishing, But the most important of all was loving his family. Joseph's grandfather, Daniel Wood, was the founder of Woods Cross, Utah. Grandmother Peninah S. Cotton. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 14, 1998 at the Orchard Stake Center, 3599 South Orchard Dr. Friends may call Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, and again Saturday morning from 9:45 - 10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment-Bountiful City Cemetery.
