Oscar Zeigler Culler, M.D., 92, a retired internist of Gulfport, MS passed away on Saturday, May 31st, 2003 in Gulfport. Dr. Culler retired from medical practice in Gulfport, MS in 1986 after 23 years. Prior to moving to Gulfport, he practiced medicine in Orangeburg, SC for 23 years. A native of Orangeburg, SC he graduated from Wofford College in 1930 and from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1935. After his internship and residency, he completed post graduate work in cardiology at Harvard University. He returned to rangeburg and began a practice in internal medicine. He was a member of the American Medical Association, the South Carolina Medical Association, a founding member of the Tri-County Regional Hospital and served on its Board of Directors. He was a Rotarian and member of the country club in Orangeburg, and St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Dr. Culler began his medical practice in Gulfport in 1962. He was a member of the Mississippi Medical Association, the Rotary Club, the Broadwater Country Club, the Gulfport Yacht Club, the Great Southern Golf Club, the Walloon Lake Country Club and First United Methodist Church of Gulfport. Dr. Culler was preceded in death by his wife, Dardis Cottrell Culler. He is survived by his two children from his marriage to Marion Graham Newnam; Graham Culler Basto of Richmond, VA and Oscar Zeigler Culler, Jr. of Memphis, TN; also two grandchildren, Marion Graham Basto of Richmond, VA and John David Basto, Jr of Darian, CT. He is survived by four step-children: Eleanor Johnson Nicholson and John Edgar Johnson, III of Gulfport, MS; Douglas Adair Kaye of Daphne, AL, and Henry Leon Kaye of Sugarland, TX. He is survived by a neice and three nephews; Minnabeth Culler Wilkinson of Chapin, SC, Lee Cunningham Culler of Ormond Beach, FL, John Hayne Culler of Orangeburg, SC, and Edgar Leonidas Culler of Orangeburg, SC. Dr. Culler was devoted to the practice of medicine. His family, friends, patients, and colleagues will always remember his gentle nature and good judgment.

Interment will be on Monday at 11:00 A.M. at Southern Memorial Park in Biloxi. The Gufport Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements.
