U.S. Congressman. He was elected as a Republican from the Ninth District of Missouri to the Fifty-fourth United States Congress, serving March 4, 1895 to March 3, 1897 but was not re-elected. After attending local schools, he attended Iowa Wesleyan University at Mount Pleasant before relocating in 1872 to Missouri to teach school. He began to teach music. By 1875 he was teaching in the Synodical Female College in Fulton, followed by Hardin College and then in public schools. He was a delegate to the Republican State convention in 1894, before being elected to Congress. Following Congress, he was a post master serving from 1898 until March 16, 1904. He began in the music publishing business in Kansas City. In 1915, he moved to St. Louis, where he continued the music publishing business as well as teaching and composing music. Although he was political, his musical career was outstanding. He served as election judge 1920 to 1924. He married twice and had a son by his first marriage. The town of Treloar, Missouri is named for him. His obituary gave his middle name as Marshall.
