RENSSELAER -- Mary C. Scherbyk Barnick, age 76 years, of First Street, died Wednesday, February 11, 1998 at her residence after a long illness. She was born in Albany and has been a resident of Rensselaer for most of her life. Mrs. Barnick worked as a clerk for Kresge's Department Store in Albany before becoming a homemaker. She also worked at St. John's Church Rectory in Rensselaer as well as Winthrop Sterling Drug Co. also in Rensselaer. She was a communicant of St. John's Church in Rensselaer and a member of its Rosary Alter Society, Ladies Auxiliary and St. Anthony's society. She was a member of the Rensselaer senior citizens. Wife of the late Thomas Barnick; mother of John S. Barnick of Encinitas, CA and William M. Barnick of Fairport, NY; sister of Daniel Scherbyk and Sophie Chidsey, both of Rensselaer and the late Rose(William) Van Apeldoorn; grandmother of Joel Harrison Barnick and Lindsey Katherine Barnick; also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral from the W.J. Lyons, Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Ave., Rensselaer Saturday morning at 8:00 and 9:00 at St. John's Church, Rensselaer where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home, Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Spring interment in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Greenbush. Contributions in her memory may be made to Community Hospice of Rensselaer County, 8 North Lake Ave., Troy, NY 12180 or St. John's Church Memorial Fund, 50 Herrick Street, Rensselaer, NY 12144.
