Roy Yearty was born and raised in Columbus, Georgia. He attended Jordan High School in Columbus where he played football. When WWII broke out Roy was offered the oppotunity of receiving a high school diploma before completing 12th grade. He enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard, and served on the U.S Menges, a Destroyer Escort.
After the war Roy was employed by Packard Motors in Miami, and later was a fireman for the City of Miami until his retirement.
