Methodist Pastor Dies in Meadville

Rev. A. R. Hillard was District Officer

Meadville, Oct 9, 1965 – The Rev. Archie Russell Hillard, pastor of Woodcock and Venango Methodist churches since 1956, died in Meadville City Hospital today.

Mr. Hillard, 81 of Erie Street, Venango, had served as executive treasurer of the Western Pennsylvania Methodist Conference's Permanent Annuity program from 1937 until 1956. He was ordained in 1928.

A graduate of Slippery Rock State College and the University of Pittsburgh,. Mr. Hillard was a past district governor of the Lions Club and was serving as president of the Lions' State Council.

Survivors include a daughter Mrs. Rosemary Wilson, of Ellwood City four sons, Archie Jr., of Pittsburgh; William and John of Philadelphia, and Samuel of Johnstown; 12 Grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Hillard of Pittsburgh and Mrs. Richard Peete of Bowling Green, Ky.; three brothers, Ellis of Volant, Richard of Bessemer and Robert of Edgewood.

Service will be at 11 a. m. Tuesday at Venango Methodist Church with burial in Cherry Creek Cemetery in Cherry Creek, N. Y.

Friends may call at the Kenneth M. Downs Funeral Home, Cambridge Springs from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 tomorrow and Monday, and from 10 to 11 a. m. Tuesday at the church.
