From her memorial: Mrs. Alta Hall Johnson, 54, wife of Haydon Johnson, died at her home on South Walker Street Saturday night at 10 o'clock, death following a long illness from cirrhosis of the liver. She underwent an operation in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in recent months and was critically ill at that time. Since then she has been extremely frail. Mrs. Johnson, who was born in Howell County August 22, 1888, was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Hall, well known pioneer residents. She was married February 5, 1911, at Junction City, Kansas, to Mr. Johnson, an interior decorator, and the two came to West Plains shortly afterward to make their home. Except for short periods of time, while temporarily living at some point where Mr. Johnson has been engaged in his work, she and her husband had continued to live here. Besides her husband she is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Cora Moore and Mrs. Ada Lee of West Plains, and Mrs. Tennie Max of Los Angeles, California. Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 in the Providence Baptist Church on the corner of St. Louis and Second Streets, with M.A. Widener in charge. The Rev. Lester Bradford will assist. Mrs. Johnson had been a member of the Missionary Baptist Church for many years. The body is lying in state at the Robertson Funeral Home on West Main Street and will remain there until time for the funeral services. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery under direction of Mr. and Mrs. Paige Robertson.
