Services Tuesday for Roy Tipton, County Treasurer
Funeral services for Roy E Tipton, 68, of 514 Walnut street, Muscatine county treasurer, will be held at the Fairbanks Home for Funerals at 2pm Tuesday. Services will be conducted by the Rev J Arthur Eveland, assisted by Rev Mr Giles of Wellman. Burial will be at Conesville.
Mr Tipton died Saturday evening at Muscatine County hospital after a brief illness.
Born Near Conesville
He was born Aug 14, 1886, near Conesville and had spent all of his life in Muscatine county with the exception of five years in California.
Before coming to Muscatine, Mr Tipton was well known for his registered Jersey cattle and registered Chester White hogs, which were shown over southeast Iowa.
He moved to Muscatine in 1943. He became deputy county treasurer in 1944 and had been county treasurer since 1948.
He married Miss Lura McCullough Jan 27, 1909, at Conesville. He was a member of the First Methodist church and of the official board of the church.
Helped With Hospital
Mr Tipton played a major role in financial planning for the construction of the Muscatine County hospital and in guiding the financial affairs of its later operation. He presided at the sale of bonds for the hospital and as ex-officio hospital treasurer expended much time and effort on the hospital project over a period of several years.
Surviving are his wife, son and daughter-in-law, Lee G and Margaret Tipton of Denver, Colo; daughter and son-in-law Luretta and Herbert Hendriks of Mt Vernon; one sister Mrs Frank Gorey of Whittier, Calif. and four grandchildren, Herbert Hendriks, jr., Robert Tipton, Julia Ann Tipton and Lynn Ellen Tipton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and two brothers.
