After his prison exchange, he was sent by train to Valdosta, Lowndes, GA...even though he had smallpox. Since his record states that he did not survive the war, it is believed that he died on the way to Valdosta while on the train, while in Valdosta, or on his way home in neighboring Berrien Co, GA. His burial place is unknown.
