Passing Of A Pioneer
Mrs. S. E. Amonett, Mother of Jas. P. Randle, Died Last Night at Her Near Wrightsboro.
M. Jas. P. Randle received a message last night announcing the death of his mother, Mrs. S. J. Amonett, aged 75 years, 6 months and 5 days. The sad event occurred last evening at 9:30 at her home near Wrightsboro.

In the death of this venerable lady Gonzales county loses one of the oldest citizens, a pioneer, who with that womanly fortitude that has ever characterized the splendid type of American womanhood, bereaved and struggled through the hardships incident to frontier life in those days. While yet a child, she, with her parents, moved to Texas, settling in Gonzales county, where, for more than six decades, she has continuously resided. She has witnessed the transformation of a struggling republic into the empire state of the Union, and her eyes have beheld the successive strides of civilization as it drove from the windswept prairies the buffalo and Indian, and blazed the way for the iron steed and the thriving marts. One son, Mrs. J. P. Randle, of this city, and two daughters, Mrs. J. B. Wells, also of this city, and Mrs. W. T. Mahon, of Wrightsboro, survive her. Of her brothers and sisters there now remains only Mr. James J. Hodges.
