A Mass of Christian Burial was conducted on Friday at 10 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gridley for Mrs. Smith who died at Enloe Memorial hospital following a brief illness. She had lived in Gridley for the past 40 years. She was a self-employed businesswoman and co-owner of Margie's Cafe in Gridley. She was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society. She was known for her scripture reading & participation in 'Children's Church'. She was a former deacon of the Gridley Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward L. Smith, a WW II veteran who died in 1978. She is survived by 3 daughters - Carol Oakley & Gloria Anderson, both of Citrus Heights; Shirley Alley of Oroville; a son, Edward M. Smith of San Jose & 5 grandchildren. Father Sean O'Leary of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church officiated at the services.
