WALTER B. 'Pete' Martin
Walter B. Peter Martin, 69, Springfield, died at 3:10 p.m. Tuesday in Cox Medical Center south
He was born April 10, 1922 to Phi and Nora Biffle Maritn in Alton. He married Opal Elizabeth Crites on Sep 21, 1946. To this union, six children were born. He served in the army from 1942-1945 and was dismissed as private frist class with the 362nd infantry. He was honorably discharged with three bronze stars, a good conduct medal and a purple heart. He was a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans Association. He lived most of his married life, the past 39 years, in Springfield Mo. He worked as a self-employed carpenter until his retirement in 1977. he was a loving, caring and forgiving husband, father and grandfather. He was a member of faith Freewill Baptist Church in Fair Grove and was loved by everyone who met or came to know him.
He is survived by his wife, Opal; his children, Barbara Martin, June and Ralph Gagan, Donna Martin, All of Springfield, Philip and Norma Martin of Fair Grove, Richard and Wynalie Martin, Kingman,Kan., and Janis Martin, Rogersville; Eight Grandchildren, Kathy and James Jones, Buddy and Carl Gagna, Spingfield, Ronnie and Maja Martin, Fair Grove, Richard Jr. and Amanda Martin Kingman, Kan,; two Great-grandchildren, Philip and Jessica Jones, Spingfield; Four brothers and two sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a brother.
Sevices will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Carter Funeral Home, Thayer. Burial will be in Cave Spring Cemetery, Alton.
Visitatin will be from 7 to 8:00 p.m. Friday in Herman Lohmeyer Funeral Home.
