Mrs. Helen R. Hitchcock
Mrs. Helen R. Hitchcock, 74, of Fair Lawn, N.J., a native of Hoosick, N.Y. and sister of Leland Rudd of Arlington, died March 1 in Bergen Pines County Hospital, Paramus, N.J.
She moved to Fair Lawn in 1930 and was welfare director there from 1948 until her retirement last year. She was the first vice president of the League of Women Voters, the first cafeteria manager of Fair Lawn High School, and the first woman to receive the Fair Lawn Jaycee community service award. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Atonement, the Bergen County Welfare Directors Association, and the New Jersey Welfare Directors Association.
In addition to her brother, she leaves a daughter, Jane of Fair Lawn; a son, Edward M. of Greenwood Lake, N.Y.; a brother William H. of Troy, N.Y.; a sister Dorothy of Bridgeport, Conn.; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
