Harold Dwayne Smith passed away Friday, Aug. 13, 2010, at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center.
Harold was born April 19, 1930, in Hastings, Neb., to Silas Arthur Smith and Mildred Mabel Fey. He graduated from Rushville High School in Indiana, attended the University of Colorado, and received a Bachelor of Science from University of the State of New York.
Harold served in the U.S. Army for four years and received a Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Medal.
He was a pharmaceutical salesman, traveling Colorado and Kansas. He was recognized by Davis Brothers Drug Wholesale Co. for being number one, and the first Hospital Salesman of the Year in Kansas. He transferred to California where he sold medical books and instruments for six years and then was transferred to Portland. Later he worked for SAIF, and owned his own carpet store in West Linn before retiring.
On May 5, 1957, he married GENEVIEVE WAMBOLDT, and together they had four children, Mitchell Dwayne (Laurel); Michelle Marie Smith (Mark Smolak); Gregory James (Carrie) and their children, Ari and Ethan; and Geoffrey Alan (Rose) and their children, Krystalyn, Caeden and Alainee. Harold is also survived by his sister, Dayle (Richard).
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2010, in St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 10390 S.W. Canyon Road, Beaverton, OR 97005. A reception will immediately following the service. A military memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010, in Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 S.E. Mt. Scott Blvd., Happy Valley; 503-273-5250. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church or Susan G. Komen Cancer Foundation.
