Willie B. McConnell, 79, went to be with our Lord on Aug. 12, 2010 while residing in Covina, Calif. 'She had been ill for several years.

She was born Jan. 4, 1931 in Scott, Miss. to Sidney and Catherine Cannon.

She married Eugene McConnell in Scott.

Willie B. McConnell was a member of the Second Baptist Church of Indio, Calif., under Pastor Ricky Williams and was also a member of the St. Paul Baptist Church of Blythe, California for many years.

Willie was very precious to all who knew her. She was nice to everyone she came in contact with. She had a warm spirit and was very genuine and real.

In Proverbs, chapter 31, Solomon talks about a virtuous woman. Willie B. McConnell had the characteristics of that woman.

She loved the Lord and she loved people. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She was a Godly woman first: We must be more determined than ever to walk upright before the Lord and let our light shine so that men will see our good works and glorify God who is in heaven. Willie B. McConnell placed her faith in Jesus Christ at an early age and was baptized reflecting her new life with Christ. She was a loving wife, mother and friend to many.

She leaves behind to carry on her legacy and cherish her memories her children, Archie L. Cannon (Caroll Cannon) of Greenville, Miss., Johnnie B. McConnell of Rockford, IL, Edwin J. McConnell, Sr. of Moreno Valley, Calif., Mary J. Robertson (B.W. Robertson Jr.) of Chino, Calif., Willie Ann McConnell (Marvin Presswood) of Inglewood, Calif. and Stanley R. McConnell of Los Angeles, Calif., her wonderful grandchildren, Jai Robertson, Michelae Robertson, Erik Presswood, Edwin McConnell, Jr., Herweena Cannon-Ford, Tim Cannon, Arkelia Cannon and Arlexia Cannon, and her longtime companion, Patrick Bowens.

She also leaves to cherish her memories her great grandchildren and a host of friends and family. She had one brother, Sidney Cannon Jr., and one sister, Terry Lewis, who preceded her in death. She also was preceded in death by her parents, Sidney Cannon Sr. and Catherine Cannon, husband Rev. Eugene McConnell, brother, Sidney Cannon Jr., sister Terry Lewis and daughter Renee McConnell Biggs.

Visitation was held Aug. 17 from 6-8 p.m. at Frye Chapel. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 18th at 10 a.m. at Frye Chapel with interment following at Palo Verde Cemetery.
