Myron L. "Mike" Carpenter, age 73, died on Wednesday, December 7, 1994, at home after a brief illness. He was born on October 22, 1921, in Black Earth, Wisconsin, the son of Edgar and Nellie (Sorn) Carpenter. He married Vera Goth on October 11, 1947. Mike served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked as a journeyman painter and paper hanger for the University of Wisconsin Physical Plant for over 27 yrs. He was an acive member of the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge, 9th Infantry Division Association, V.F.W. Post # 7591 of which he was a past commander, Cooties Pup Tent #41 of which he was a past Seam Squirrel, and the American Legion Post #534 in McFarland. He is survived by his wife, Vera of Cottage Grove; a son, Larry (Marjorie) of Unity, Wisconsin; two daughters, Linda Fry of Monona, Tina of Madison; five grandchildren, Christopher, Alexis, Michael, Hannah and Edgar; two sisters, Luella Clarke of Fruita, Colorado, June Grinde of Las Cruces, New Mexico; two brothers, Earl (Arlene) Carpenter of Fontana, California, Donald (Ann) of Otsego, Wisconsin; a brother-in-law Merlin Goth of Madison; a sister-in-law Elaine Bradley of Columbus, Wisconsin; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Lois Goth; and a brother, Paul. Funeral services will be held at the GUNDERSON FUNERAL HOME 5203 Monona Drive, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 10, 1994. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens with military graveside rites conducted by the Madison Veterans Council Firing Squad. Friends may call from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 9, 1994, at the funeral home, where the V.F.W. Post #7591 will pass in review at 7:30 p.m.
