The Guide Rock Signal (Guide Rock, NE), Thursday, June 3, 1926; pg. 1
Pardon E. Fairfield
was born at North Ridge, Massachussets, June 26, 1849, and as a young lad moved with his parents to Galine, Michigan. He was married to Miss Hannah J. Stotter on April 21, 1879 (sic). To this union were born five children, all of whom are living.
He moved to Guide Rock in 1883 and settled on the farm one mile east and one mile south of town, which he ever afterward made his home. He hauled the logs, helped saw the lumber and shipped it from Michigan to build his house, which is mostly of poplar.
His wife died September 25, 1910.
About 1915 he moved to California and in 1918 was married to Mrs. Emma Lee of Broken Bow, Nebraska, making his home in Long Beach until a few months prior to his death when he returned to his old home in Guide Rock.
At an early age he united with the Church of Christ and ever remained faithful to the faith. Two weeks before his death, he was heard to say: "Lord, I come to Thee." While living in California he was a member of Taubman's Bible Class.
The first meeting which resulted in the organization of the Church of Christ in Guide Rock, was held in the grove north of his home. He was a charter member. V.E. Shirley conducted the meeting. Mr. Fairfield was instrumental in buying the lot and building the Church of Christ in Guide Rock and gave of his means for its support.
He had but one sister who died in 1913. He leaves four sons and one daughter: Milton of Delphos, Kansas, George W. of Valley, Edmond J. of Guide Rock, Mrs. Millie B. Molley of Guide Rock. There are also sixteen grand children, two great grand children and a large number of friends to mourn his departure which occurred May 30, 1926. Four step-children, Andrew, Sam, Lulu and Eva, and their families live in California.
He was a loving and kind husband and father.
Funeral services were conducted at his old home Tuesday, June 1, at 2:30 p.m., by Dr. J.E. Wilson, pastor of the Christian Church. The body was laid to rest in Guide Rock cemetery (sic), where his father rests, to await the Resurrection Day.
Many friends extend sympathy.
