Sarah Marie (Carter) Pierce, 64, of Fairfield Township, died Sunday afternoon, Dec. 2, 2007 at South Jersey Healthcare-Regional Medical Center, in Vineland, after a brief illness. She had been a patient for the past month. Born in Bridgeton, Sept. 17, 1943, she was the wife of the late Rexford Pierce, and the daughter of Syretha (nee Pierce) Carter and the late Ralph Carter. She had been a resident of the Gouldtown area for most of her life.
Marie as she was called, was retired from the Cumberland County Board of Social Services, and was a member of Trinity A.M.E. Church, Gouldtown, where she served formerly on the missionary board. She also was a longtime member of the Alice S. Felts Federation. She was a member of the Fairfield Volunteer Fire Co. No. 2 Gouldtown ladies auxiliary. She enjoyed shopping, gardening, and caring for her dog and cat, but mostly spending time with her grandchildren, and dedicating her time to taking care of her mother.
Surviving her, to cherish her memory are her two sons, Charles E. Games Jr. and his wife, Patricia E. Games, of Newark Del., and Wayne U. Games and his wife, Migdalia, of Vineland; two brothers, Ralph Carter and his wife, Phyllis, of Dover, Del., and Wayne Carter and his wife, Beverly, of Gouldtown; four grandchildren, Breonna, Kala, and Imani Games, and Jeannie Maldonado; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 7, at noon from Trinity A.M.E. Church, 1107 Bridgeton-Millville Pike, Gouldtown. Marie's pastor, Dr. Rev Michael Keen, will officiate. The interment will be at Gouldtown Memorial Park, in Fairfield Township.
Friends may call on Friday morning from 10 a.m. to noon at the church prior to the services. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Sray-Webster Funeral Home, 62 Landis Ave., Carll's Corner, Upper Deerfield Township.
