Elaine V. Morris, age 89, of Fairfield Township, NJ departed this life on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loved ones. Elaine had been in declining health over the past few years. She was born in Bridgeton NJ, on January 10, 1932, to the late Preston H. and Gladys L. Pierce. Elaine was a lifelong resident of Gouldtown NJ and was the wife of the late Marshall H. Morris, Jr. There union lasted for 42 years.
Elaine was employed in various positions and possessed many talents. She was an excellent seamstress, extraordinary cook, and loved to paint, crochet and knit. Elaine's career began with Scope Inc. preparing healthy and nutritious food for preschoolers. After leaving Scope, she continued as head cook at Tri-County Community Action Partnership Head Start Program retiring after 25 years. She also cooked for Dandria's Restaurant in the 70s.
As a teenager, she played piano for St. Augustine Methodist Church in Bridgeton. Elaine attend Trinity AME Church in Gouldtown and served in many ministries. She was a Missionary, Trustee, Stewardess, Usher, and a member of the Independent Church Aide. Her compassion and love extended beyond the church walls. Under the direction of Elaine and several other members, a soup ministry was formed to helped those in need in the community. Elaine was also a member of the Gouldtown Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.
In her leisure, Elaine enjoyed many activities. Among them was playing the card game Hand and Foot with her close friends. Elaine also enjoyed entertaining at her home and spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Vacationing at the beach and in the mountains with her family was also something she greatly enjoyed.
Elaine is survived by her three children, Marsha "Squeakie" Dunkins and her husband Rev. James Dunkins of Millville, Michele Chappell and her husband William "Bill" of Fairfield Twp., Preston Oscar Morris and his wife Marjorie of Mechanicsville, Virginia, two sisters Alvetta M Bailey and her husband Raymond of Willingboro, Delora V. Ferebee and her husband Randulph "Gene" of Fairfield Twp. , two brothers Maynard P. Pierce and his wife Martina of North Carolina, Anthony G. Pierce and his wife Donna of Stow Creek Twp., eight grandchildren Erica Williams Mosley, Jonathan Morris, Justin Dunkins, Heather Morris, Jennifer Dunkins, Brandon Morris, Jorel Morris, and Brittney Dunkins, a host of great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Elaine was predeceased by her brother Nathan Gould and a sister Bernice E. Webster, her sister in law Betty Pierce and brother in law Joe Webster and her grandson Lamar Morris.
A walk thru visitation will be held on Tuesday December 21, 2021 at Trinity AME Church Gouldtown, Rt 49 from 8:00am till 11:00am. Services for the immediate family will be held at 11:00 with the Rev. Dr. Michael Keene presiding. Interment will follow in Gouldtown Memorial Park, Fairfield Twp. Facial coverings will be required regardless of vaccination status please.
