Youngstown Vindicator Memorial Obituary:
SALEM – Sarah A. "Sally" Calvin, 85, formerly of Green Beaver Road, passed away at 10:15 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010, at the Hospice House in Poland.

Mrs. Calvin was born Aug. 24, 1924, in Youngstown, the daughter of Robert L and Ann W. Davis Dunker.

Sarah attended Moody Bible Institute from 1950 to 1952, was a graduate of Youngstown State University in 1954 and received her Masters in Education in 1970.

She worked at the Leetonia School District in elementary education, retiring in 1982. She also taught elementary education in the Niles School System from 1954 to 1958.

Mrs. Calvin was a member of the Old North Baptist Church in Canfield, and with her husband, she began the "Golden Heirs" senior group within the church.

Sarah was a Delta Kappa Gamma, which is a international honorary teachers society. She won the 1973 Freedom Foundation Teacher Award. She was a past chairman and member of the local board of directors for child Evangelism Fellowship. Mrs. Calvin was also a historian responsible for the research and writing of Washingtonville History and was instrumental in forming the Washingtonville Park.

Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel L. Calvin, whom she married on June 28, 1958. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Orma Miller and Mrs. Betty Jane Lindelof.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews, Ruthanne Reiss of Ocala, Fla., Carol Smyth of Stamford, Conn., Nancy Shipley of Salem, Esther Travers of Framingham, Mass., Lois Palazzo of Solon, Ruth Shuda of Jefferson, Wis., Earl Calvin of Canfield and Roy Calvin of Columbus and her sister-in-law, Eva Calvin of Columbiana.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010, at the Old North Church in Canfield, with the Rev. Brent Allen and Rev. Bob Catteau officiating.

Burial will be at the Locust Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010, at the Old North Church in Canfield. The family suggests that material tributes may be made to the Senior Adult Ministry at the Old North Church.
