Ruby Pearl (Peterson) McCandless, 97, of Broken Bow, passed away of natural causes Nov. 29, 2010 at Jennie Melham Hospital Broken Bow, NE.
Ruby was born on June 7, 1913 in a sod house at Weissert, Custer Co. Nebraska, to Milton and Mable (Govier) Peterson. She was the youngest of 9 children, she lived all of her life in Custer County.
Ruby married Melvin LeRoy (Roy) McCandless, December 22, 1932 in Julesburg, Co. They had 4 sons William, Eldon, Terry, Nick, & 1 daughter Ardith Joleen.
Most of her life was spent as a farm wife, during the hard times when it wasn't easy raising a family. After her husband died April 1,1976 she enjoyed helping out where she could and did so many years. She volunteered at nursing homes fixing hair, was a Broken Bow Ambassador and a member of the Rebecca's and the Doe's. She loved to go to Miller to dances, walking her poodle dogs around Broken Bow, and being a constant companion to Joleen and her girls.
Survivors include; her son Eldon (Connie) McCandless, daughter Joleen McCandless Linder, all of Broken Bow, daughter-in-law Isabelle McCandless of Merna, NE
