Norma L (Olson) McGinley

Norma L McGinley, 86, of Oshkosh, died Tuesday, August 10, 2010, at Oshkosh Hospital of cancer. Her celebration of life services were held Saturday, August 14, 2010, at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, with internment at the Oshkosh Cemetery. Rosary was recited Friday, August 13, 2010.
Norma was born south of Oshkosh on September 20, 1923 to Albin & Lillian (Ballinger) Olson. In 1940 she graduated Garden County High School and began teaching in Lewellen, Nebraska. She also worked as a bank teller in Denver and Oshkosh.
Norma married John Patrick (Pat) McGinley on October 28, 1947 at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Oshkosh, Nebraska. They began their live on the John McGinley ranch north of Lisco. In May 1950 they moved to the Blue Creek Ranch, north of Oshkosh and resided there until 1987 when they moved to Oshkosh.
Norma was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, friend and community member and was especially proud of her Swedish heritage and traditions. She served in various capacities in the local and state Cowbelles organization, (now Nebraska Cattlewomen). She served as the president of the organization 1978/1979. She was a founding board member of the Garden County Community Foundation, served on the Garden County Hospital Board and was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary.
Norma served as the organist and pianist for St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church for over 45 years. She also enjoyed playing with local musical groups.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Pat, of Oshkosh and four children: Julie Worley of Rocky Ford, Colorado, Sue McGinley of Denver, Colorado, Peter McGinley of Torrington, Wyoming and May (John) Adolf of Chicago, Illinois. ‘Nana' Norma was grandmother to: Mike Worley, Kilgore, Texas, David Worley of Denver, Colorado, Ryan Worley of Durango, New Mexico, Kristin McGinley of San Antonio, Texas and Kayla McGinley of Bourne, Texas and six great grandchildren. Norma was preceded in death by her parents, Albin and Lillian Olson, her in-laws: John and Gert McGinley, and her brother and his wife: Bob and Audrey Olson.
Norma will be remembered as a wonderful cook and how she enjoyed entertaining. Norma loved her family, her friends, Nebraska, the beautiful Sandhills and Oshkosh. She was a loving, compassionate, and classy lady who will be missed by all who knew her.
