He was born April 6, 1926, in Lima to Amos E. and Opal F. Sterling Binkley, who preceded him in death. On April 22, 1945, he married Bonnie J. Custer, who died Aug. 15, 2010. They were married for 64 years.
Mr. Binkley was a pipe fitter for BP Chemical for more than 30 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275. He enjoyed gardening, landscaping and spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include a daughter, Sharon (Mike) Shirkey, of Ottoville; two sons, Thomas N. Binkley, of Elida, and Bruce G. (Joann) Binkley, of Toledo; three grandchildren, Derek (Amy) Mills, Dave (Jodi) Shirkey and Shannon (David) Schlagbaum; eight great-grandchildren, Quinley Schlagbaum, Trae Schlagbaum, Kellen Schlagbaum, Jake Mills, Tyler Mills, Ava Lucke, Emma Lucke and Kassidy Shirkey; two brothers, Don Binkley, of Florida, and Dan (Colleen) Binkley, of Lima; and a sister, Marilyn Thomas, of Toledo.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bud (Jeanne) and Roger Binkley; a sister, Phyllis Conley; a brother-in-law, Merl Thomas; and a sister-in-law, Yvonne Binkley.
Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Chiles-Laman Funeral Homes, Shawnee Chapel. The Rev. Howard Allison will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites by VFW Post 1275.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
