OZARK. . .Billy Edsel Woodham, beloved husband and father, a resident of Ozark, was called home to be with his heavenly father, early Saturday morning, August 14, 2010, in a Dothan hospital. He was 72.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A. M. Monday, August 16, 2010, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Elder Clayton Nowell and Reverend Timothy Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory, between Headland and Dothan. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 P. M. Sunday at the mortuary in Headland.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Piney Grove Primitive Baptist Church, P.O. Box 401, Headland, AL. 36345.

Born on September 26, 1937 and reared in the Chalkhead Community of Dale County, Mr. Woodham lived all his life in Ozark. During the Berlin Crisis, he served his country in the Army National Guard and was activated with the Ozark unit to Ft. Irwin, California. Mr. Woodham began farming at a very early age and was also employed as an aircraft mechanic at Fort Rucker for several years while caring for his parents. His love of agriculture continued until he retired from farming in 2003. In 1982, Mr. Woodham was elected and served two terms as a member of the Dale County Commission. He was a member of the Piney Grove Primitive Baptist Church in Headland and was a former member of the Chalkhead Baptist Church and the Ewell Bible Baptist Church.

In the early 1970's, Mr. Woodham and his brother, Lewis, received a medal for bravery for rescuing two men from a burning helicopter crash in Dale County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman Woodham and Blunia Grantham Woodham, a brother, Lewis Woodham and a sister, Imogene Woodham.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Myra Earlene Murray Woodham, Ozark; two daughters, Wendy Renee' Woodham, Ozark and Amy DeLane Woodham Saliba and husband, Ray Saliba, Demopolis, AL; four grandchildren, Morgan Saliba, Kathlene Saliba, Natalie Saliba and Alexander Saliba; a sister, Evie Woodham Blair, Selma, AL; and a brother, Gerome Woodham, Ashford, AL; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law from the Murray family, Guinevere Hall Davidson and husband, Jim Davidson, Dothan; Winnie Murray and Ruby Stinson, both of Abbeville; several nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers will be Kenny Murray, Ray Stinson, Jim Davidson, David Dennis, Gary Grantham, Wayne Woodham, Buddy Perkins, Dr. Bruce Hall and Richard Seibel.
