Marine Hero Takes Bride
Ceremony Held Sunday at Beebe River
Campton, August 12 — At a home wedding in Beebe River this afternoon Miss Genevieve Vintinner, daughter of Mr and Mrs Rufus Vintinner, became the bride of a hero of Peleliu, Corporal Herbert W Ash, 22, USMC, eldest son of Mr and Mrs Herbert H Ash of Plymouth. The double ring service was performed by Reverend A Brownlow Thompson of Bristol, formerly of Plymouth, beneath a bower of evergreen and roses. The wedding music was played by Mrs Mildred Merrill of Plymouth, wife of Selectman Harry A Merrill, and Miss Ethel Foster sang. The bride was given in marriage by her father.
The bride wore a gown of white chiffon, bouffant style, with short train, sweetheart neckline and long sleeves. Her finger-tip veil was held in place by a coronet of orange blossoms and she carried a bouquet of white roses. Her Maid of Honor was her sister, Miss Geraldine Vintinner, in a gown of floral Swiss and carrying pink roses. PFC Carroll Ash, also of the Marine Corps, and brother of the bridegroom served as best man. A reception was held in honor of the couple following the service, and a wedding luncheon was served.
The bride is a graduate of Plymouth High School, Class of 1944, and has been studying music with Mrs. Harry A. Merrill of Plymouth. Corporal Ash is also a graduate of Plymouth High School, 1941, and for a short time was employed with the Draper corporation in Beebe River. He enlisted in the Marines January 12, 1942 with his brother, Carroll, and they trained at Parris Island, North Carolina and saw service together for a long time until they were both wounded in the invasion of Peleliu last fall, when they were separated.
The brothers took in many battles on New Guinea, and in the invasion of Cape Gloucester on New Britain on Christmas Day 1943. After the New Britain campaign they were sent to a rest base in the Solomon Islands for the summer months, prior to the invasion of Peleliu. Both received leg wounds in this invasion. Herbert was finally sent back to this country, arriving at Oakland, California in November. Carroll recovered and was returned to action, and a day later was severely wounded in his left leg. He was returned to this country last February, and the two brothers met again at home shortly after. Carroll's wedding will take place next month. >The Plymouth Record, August 13, 1945.

Campton — Genevieve Ash, 66, of Route 175 died August 6, 1993 in Speare Memorial Hospital, Plymouth, after a long illness. She was born in Campton and was a lifelong resident of the Campton area. She was a graduate of Plymouth High School. Mrs Ash was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
She was the widow of Herbert Ash, longtime Grafton County Sheriff who died in 1989. The family includes a son, David Ash of Ashland, Maine; four grandchildren, a sister Geraldine Seigfreid of Syracuse, New York; a brother, Robert Vintinner of Kittery, Maine; nieces and nephews.
Calling hours at Mayhew Funeral Home, Plymouth were Sunday. The funeral was Monday in The Congregational Church of Campton. Burial was in Blair Cemetery. >The Record Enterprise, August 12, 1993.
