The death of Bailey C Jones, which occurred early Sunday morning at his home in West Cookeville, came as a shock to many of his friends and acquaintances, few of whom had learned of his illness.
He would have been 72 on June 4.
He was born and reared in Flynn's Lick in Jackson county. For many years, and during most of the active period of his life, he was a railroad section foreman on what is now the Tennessee Central Railway, but when he entered its employ, it was the old Nashville and Knoxville Railroad Co.
For several years he was a resident of Double Springs, but about 35 years ago he moved to Cookeville, and lived at the same residence until he died.
He was married 3 times, his first 2 wives having preceded him in death. He is survived by his last wife and 6 children; also by his sister, Miss Nettie Jones, who resided with him, and many other relatives in Jackson county.
He had been a loyal member of the Church of Christ since his youth, and had been an active member of Mount View Lodge No 179, Independent Order of Odd Fellows of this city, for about 35 years. He was a good man and enjoyed the confidence and esteem of all who knew him.
Funeral services were conducted at the home Monday afternoon by Elder O H Tallman, with burial in the City cemetery. Services at the cemetery were conducted by the Odd Fellows.
