Mary Ellen Beal married Charles Elmore Smith in September, 1889, and they had five children, although infant son Charles Franklin Smith died and is buried in this same cemetery. Four children survived and lived to marry and raise their own families.
Mary Ellen's husband died at an early age from consumption. Mary Ellen also died at an early age from a sudden attack of asthma as she was caring for her baby granddaughter.
