Mary Ellen Beal was born to George Beal, Sr., and Elizabeth (Pynor) McKinney. Mary Ellen had 3 brothers: George Jr., John, and Franklin Beal; also she had three half sisters and three half brothers.
Mary Ellen Beal married Charles Elmore Smith in September, 1889, and they had five children, although infant son Charles Franklin Smith died and is buried in this same cemetery. Four children survived and lived to marry and raise their own families.
Mary Ellen's husband died at an early age from consumption. Mary Ellen also died at an early age from a sudden attack of asthma as she was caring for her baby granddaughter.
Mary Ellen, her husband Charles, and their baby son Franklin Smith are all buried here.
