Services for Virginia B. Abney, 81, of Pollok, will be held in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park, 5205 S. First Street, in the Elwyn M. Gipson Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Mrs. Abney was born April 11, 1935 in Lufkin, Texas, the daughter of the late Effie Alberta (Jones) and Carl Kennedy, Sr. She passed away Saturday, February 11, 2017 in a Nacogdoches hospital.

Mrs. Abney was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was retired from Nederland ISD as a teacher. She was a 20-year member of Pollok Baptist Church and a member of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include her sons, David Abney and Wilson Abney; grandson, Damien Gasper; granddaughters, Toscha Sponsler and Toni Sponsler; grandson, Jacob Abney; 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Jean Warrner; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Abney was preceded in death by her husband, Ray R. Abney; 1 son; 1 daughter; and 2 brothers.

Services are in the care of Oakley-Metcalf Funeral Home.
