Floyd E. Fenton
Floyd E. Fenton, 94, of 224 Highlands Place, Harrisonburg, died Saturday morning, July 14, 2001, at the health care facility in the Sunnyside Presbyterian Community.
A son of the late Arthur C. Fenton and Hattie M. Stuckey, he was born on July 16, 1906, in Orifino, Idaho.
Mr. Fenton lived his early life in Walla Walla, Wash. and graduated from Washington State University, where he studied agriculture.
He spent 15 years in Washington State in the private dairy industry and 25 years with the U.S. Department of Agriculture of which the last 18 years were spent in the Washington, D.C. office.
Retiring in 1973, Mr. Fenton moved to a small acreage in Glengary, West Virginia, before coming to the Sunnyside Presbyterian Community in 1988.
He was a member of Bunker Hill, West Virginia Presbyterian Church, Kiwanis International Club of Harrisonburg, the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity and was a lifetime member of the American Dairy Science Association.
On June 10, 1933, he married the former Helen Diebel in Walla Walla, Wash., who preceded him in death.
Surviving are two children, Joan Pine of Chicago, Ill., and Jerry F. Fenton of St. Paul, Minn.; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Pine and Gregory Pine; and a number of nieces and nephews. He is the last surviving member of his immediate family.
His body will be cremated at the Lindsey Cremation Chapel in Harrisonburg. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 Saturday afternoon, July 28, from the Bethel Chapel at Sunnyside Presbyterian Retirement Community.
