MERVIN JAMES MABEE
July 23, 1928 - June 24, 2010
Mervin James "Jim" Mabee, the fourth child of Ray E. and Trella Mabee, was born July 23, 1928, at the home of his grandmother, Mervin in Nampa, Idaho.
He lived on his father's homestead above Sweet, Idaho. He attended Valley View and Sweet schools.
In 1950, he joined the United States Navy, serving on the USS Philippine Sea. After his discharge, he married Frieda Annette Badley on June 6, 1955, in Wilder, Idaho.
He and Frieda bought his fathers ranch in Sweet and lived there until 1958. They sold the homestead and purchased a ranch on the Emmett Bench. They lived there a few years before selling and purchasing a ranch near New Plymouth, Idaho. They lived there until health problems forced Jim to quit ranching and take early retirement.
They moved into New Plymouth where Frieda took a job at a local store. Frieda passed away June 28, 1998. Jim continued to live in New Plymouth, where he liked to attend auctions, buying bargains and reselling them.
He also enjoyed fishing, and gardening. Jim and Frieda never had any children, but were a favorite aunt and uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Dorothy Heikkila; a brother, Nelson; and his wife.
He is survived by a brother, Orval (Lennis) Mabee; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 15, 2010, at the Sweet Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Potter Funeral Chapel Emmett.
