William Bray Sr. Family

William Bray was born at Tavistock, near Gunnis Lake, Devonshire, England on November 17, 1845. Eliza Jane McGaham was born August 14, 1848 at Bonne Terre, Mis¬souri. They were married January 1, 1871 at Bonne Terre. Their first son, William Robert, was born there on February 17,1873.

The young family of three came by immigrant train from Missouri to Corinne, Utah and then by covered wagon to Silver Star, Montana. They settled in the Silver Star vicini¬ty where there other three sons were born: Albert Earnest, January 24, 1877; John Harvey, December 1, 1880, and Charles Lamott, June 22, 1882.

The family came to the Centennial Valley in 1894, and took up homesteads in the upper end of the valley, east of the Red Rock Lakes. William, Eliza and son Albert played for dances.
Albert died in the Centennial in 1901 and his father in 1904. They are buried in the Lima Cemetery.

John Bray was a driver for the Monida to West Yellow¬stone Stage Line (M-Y). He met his wife Mayme Larson, who was working for her brother Lars Larson, in Lakeview. They were married in Lakeview on July 28, 1904. They had three children, Barney, Raymond and Arlene.

Charles Bray met his wife, Helen Amy Curtis, when she came to the Valley to teach school.

Helen was born in Walkerville, Montana, July 24, 1889. They were married July 3, 1910. They had three sons, Curtis, Kenneth and Jack.

William Bray was married in Sheridan to Martha Nelson.

They had one son who died as an infant. William operated a dairy in Sheridan. The mother, Eliza, made her home with son William until her death in 1935. She is buried in Lima.
