Richard Boyd was the son of Richard Coleman Boyd (1753-1823) and Frances Walden (1757-1823). His full name is unknown. A son is named Richard W(elcome) Boyd. In the 1850 census, Richard is listed as Richard Boyd Sr. On the same page his son is listed as Richard W Boyd. However, the Walden-Boyd bible refers to Richard as Richard Boyd Jr. as does the book, The Boyds of Boyds Tank, pp. 22, 27. Perhaps, he was named Richard Coleman Boyd after his father, but I know of no record that substantiates that.

Richard Boyd married Lucy Farley July 19, 1815 in Jasper County, Georgia. About 1828, the family moved from Jasper County to Troup County, Georgia, where the family was residing in the 1830 census. By 1840, the family had relocated to Chambers County, Alabama, where he remained until his death in 1857.

Children born to Richard Boyd and Lucy Farley include:
James F Boyd (1817-1856)
Martha Elizabeth Boyd (1820-1847)
Richard Welcome Boyd (1825-1902)
Orey W Boyd (1827-1903)
M Elvira Boyd (1829-1874)
John Pleasant Boyd (1832-1862)
Malissa Susan Boyd (1835-1900)
Celeste Boyd (1837- )
Talitha Cumi Boyd (1842-1906)
