Mrs. James Simpson died at her home east of Olean Wednesday evening, April 4, 1917, after an illness of several days.

Mrs. Simpson was born November 20, 1820, her maiden name being Roark. She was married to John M. Simpson September 20, 1855. To this union were born ten children, four of whom survive, they being Mrs. Jane Slavens, Tom Simpson, Sam Simpson and Mrs. Fannie Kimler all of near Olean. Seventeen grandchildren survive. There were also twenty-four great-grandchildren some of whom passed to the great beyond. She leaves one brother, Enoch Roark of Russellville. Her husband passed away August 8, 1911.

Mrs. Simpson was a member of the Baptist Church over sixty-five years and always a faithful Christian woman. She was always ready to help anyone and lend a willing hand to the poor and needy. She will be greatly missed by the relatives, friends and neighbors. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Hensley at the Mt. Herman Church at 2 o’clock Thursday evening after which the body was laid beside her husband in the Allen Cemetery.

We wish to thank all who came to our aid during the illness and death of our dear mother. These tokens of friendship and self-sacrifice can never be forgotten by us…Children of Mrs. Jane Simpson.
