Helen Koelling
IRVINGTON — Helen Koelling, 91, of Irvington died at 12:05 p.m. Monday, May 25, 2009, at her home.
She was born on March 31, 1918, daughter of Charles and Flora (Steinwald) Nottmeyer. She married Fred Koelling on Aug. 3, 1941, in Irvington, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 11, 1983.
Mrs. Koelling is survived by a sister, Elsa Nottmeyer of Centralia; a special niece who was raised as a daughter, Barbara Stewart-Rogers of St. Cloud, Fla.; four nephews; nieces; one great-nephew, Damon Rogers; and great-nieces.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; an 11-year-old son, Charles Koelling; an 8-month-old daughter, Tyna Koelling; and a great-nephew, Justin Rogers, who died in 2003.
Mrs. Koelling was a homemaker and operated the Prairie Hill Farm with her husband, Fred, from her father's death in 1945 until 1980. She had lived in Irvington all her life. She was a member of the Friedens United Church of Christ in Irvington and was confirmed in the United Church of Christ in 1932. She attended the Johnson Country Elementary School and graduated from Centralia High School in 1936. She was a member and secretary of the Washington County Home Extension, a member of the Washington County Farm Bureau and a member of AARP She was honored with the title of Washington County Peach Queen in 1936.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Friedens United Church of Christ in Irvington. Interment will follow at Friedens Cemetery in Irvington.
