Lee, as he was known in the family, was born and died on the home farm in Young Twp. (now Bell Twp.), Jefferson Co., PA.

Lee's birth and death are recorded as follows in the David Grube family Bible:
"Jacob Lee was born the twenty ninth day of April A D 1855"
"Jacob Lee Grube died August 28th [sic] A D 1860 Aged 5 years and 4 months Sleep sweetly and in peace"

Abraham Rudolph (1816-1904), who was a first cousin of Lee's mother, recorded the following entry in his journal when Lee died:
"[August 1860] Tu 28: ... then I rode to David Grubes, his little son laying a corpse. I read and prayed with them then i rode to the grave with the funeral at Rhoads graveyard. then i rode home this evening. ... [written in margin] Jacob Lee Grube buried"
[Note: This Rhoads graveyard is now known as the Pifer Cemetery and is located in McCalmont Twp., Jefferson Co., PA]

Note: The family Bible reports Lee's death as August 28, 1860. His gravestone shows August 27, 1860 and this date is supported by Abraham Rudolph's journal entry. The Bible entry was made years after Lee died. This also holds true for the record of his birth in the family Bible. I am assuming that his exact birth date from the Bible is correct and the age on the gravestone is off.
