Infant son of Peter and Ann Ranck; aged 4 months and 3 days.

Died one day after the death of his sister.

Because of the intimate danger to the family, the Rancks sought refuge with other LDS Church members at the various settlements on their trek to Winter Quarters encampment.

There, they finally officially reported the deaths of their children to Church leaders. Consequently, these two children were included in the listing of "deaths" at Winter Quarters and are included on a cenotaph memorial at the Mormon Pioneer Cemetery located at Winter Quarters, Nebraska: Mary Catherine; William
