Wm. Boughner Succumbs in Cooperstown

William J. Boughner, 90, of Cooperstown died Saturday morning at his home following an extended illness. Mr. Boughner, who observed his 90th birthday anniversary last month, had been in ill health for about a year. He resided in the home in which he died, at the corner of Main and Church Streets in Cooperstown, for the past 35 years.

He was a retired farmer and woodsman, but retained his interest in growing things and in later years enjoyed gardening at his Coopertown property.

He was born in Jackson Township, March 21, 1870, a son of the late Lewis and Harriet Hays Boughner. He spent all his life in the Cooperstown area and resided both in Canal and Jackson Townships.

He was an active member of the Wesleyan Methodist Church of Cooperstown and attended services as long as his health permitted. He was a member of the Adult Bible Class of the church.

Mr. Boughner was united in marriage with the former Rachel Heffernan, who died Sept. 20, 1931. He was re-married Oct. 13, 1933, to the former Susan Young, who survives along with five sons and a daughter; Earl, of Maple Dale, Franklin RD 1; Claude H. Boughner, of Franklin; Mrs. Charles (Nellie) Gealy, Franklin RD 1; Emory and William C. Boughner Jr., both of Cooperstown and Grover, of Grove City.

Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. G.B. (Mary) Andre, of Franklin, and Mrs. Sherman B. Rough, Utica RD 2; 22 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

The body was removed to the Burger Funeral Home.
