Haburn and his family moved from Stonega, Wise County, Virginia to Yokum Station, Lee County, Virginia and later to Harlan County, Kentucky as new coal mining operations were opend up. After Haburn grew up, he worked as a coal miner for various mining companies including the Manalapan Mining Company in Ages, Kentucky.
In late 1953 Haburn followed his oldest daugther, Ruth Browning Sergent, to Louisville, Kentucky in search of a better life. Haburn found a job as a maintenance employee in the Heyburn Building located in downtown Louisville. The Heyburn Building is the tallest building in Louisville.
Haburn died at a Hospice facility in Louisville. Funeral Services were handled by Embry-Bosse Funeral Home.
